Leah Paul

I am the proud mama to beautiful, creative Malin, whose birth experience was the catalyst for my journey to midwifery. The transformation, support, and empowerment that I felt through giving birth naturally made me realize that working to help facilitate these same feelings for other women is what I was meant to do.

In 2015, I earned my CPM credential and license through the Virginia Board of Medicine after nearly eight years of intensive, comprehensive training both in and out-of-hospital settings. I’ve been attending births since 2007, first as a certified doula, then as a student midwife, apprenticing with several Virginia CPMs in homes and birth centers. While actively attending prenatals, postpartums and births as an apprentice midwife, I continued to build my knowledge base and midwifery skills by attending various workshops and conferences, teaching childbirth classes, and co-facilitating the Fredericksburg Family Childbirth Circle.

To date, I have attended approximately 350 births. I maintain current certifications in both Infant and Adult CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation (NNR). In April 2017, I was lucky enough to midwife my nephew into the world at his homebirth, then in September 2018, I had the honor again of attending the birth of another sweet nephew at the birth center! (Being an auntie, I’ve discovered, is one of my other callings). In my downtime, you can find me lifting weights at the gym, working in my garden, seeing live music, and spending time with my family and friends.
