Our Vision
As midwives, our roles are that of a guide and consultant to our clients, who have the final authority and responsibility for their and their babies’ well-being. We also act as lifeguards during birth, letting the process unfold according to the mother’s own desires and instincts within the parameters of normalcy and safety, while ready and able to intervene if it becomes necessary.
Our Philosophy
It is our belief that every woman deserves respectful, sensitive, skilled and continuous care in the childbearing year (and on either side of it!). The best scientific evidence and all the millennia of human existence tell us that the vast majority of women can birth their babies with little or no intervention. Women know and understand their own bodies and their babies better than any outside “expert” can, and are therefore the most qualified decision-makers with regard to their bodies and their babies’ care.
Our Mission
The unique hallmark of midwifery care is the relationship between the midwife and her clients. It is a collaborative effort between them that should ensure safe and satisfying care. Both parties have certain responsibilities to uphold.
- Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
- Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
- Minimizing technological interventions
- Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention
The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
